I celebrated 1 month of working out and getting active today! I did this by getting on the bike at the gym and riding, followed by boxing, TRX moves, water-ball twistin, more TRX moves, deadlifts, ball-walking and "pistons"....I truly tired myself out today!
Over the course of the month, I have noticed a serious increase in strength, mobility and stamina! I am able to do things that were darn near impossible a month ago...especially flexibility type moves, deep knee bends, etc.
I catch my trainer making little inspirational comments here and there that really get me motivated! Like today, he had me grip the bar differently saying "if we go to a deadlift competition and you 'hook' the bar like you do, they're gonna laugh"...that tells me his vision is greater than mine at the time, which inspires me to do more!
It's supposed to rain all week, so I'll be back at the gym in the morning on the bike once again!
I did do a 3 mile walk this morning, beating the looming rainstorms. I still have a blister and callous issue on my left foot so I am taking it somewhat easy on the walking. Yesterday at the gym I walked on the treadmill some and I am beginning to incorporate bicycling into my cardio plan as well.
The gym is going awesome. Tomorrow will be my one month anniversary of working out with my trainer. I have gained a lot of strength, flexibility and energy in a short amount of time. The latest thing he has me doing is boxing! Wow...that is a serious cardio workout in a very short time!
Other people are starting to notice the better shape I am getting into as well, which is awesome inspiration to keep pushing the activity level higher and higher!
I never know what is in store for me from day to day at the gym, so I'll have to wait and see...I will write about it for sure!
In fact, I feel kind of like a schmuck! I put it out there about doing 100 miles per month and on day #6 I went and did an 8 miler...I wayyyyy over did it....I got blisters on the bottom of both feet....the worst of which is on the left foot
I have been instructed by my trainer, to wait until my new shoes get here before I continue with the walking....I know that he is right, but I am feeling appetite side effects..and a weight loss slow down...
Anyways just venting...I'll be back out there before long...
I have completed my first 6 days of walking! I did 25.5 miles in 6 days with my longest single walk of 8 miles being completed yesterday. In all honesty, I definitely overdid it on the 8 miler, especially without having proper footwear. It felt awesome to complete the mission I set out to complete, with the final 1.5 miles in the rain, but I definitely paid for it in the following 18 hours or so! After completing yesterday's 8, I discovered I got myself a nice blister on the ball of my right foot (which of course, I popped against medical advice) and my feet felt like I was walking on bloody stumps. I soaked my feet in warm water with epsom salts and then went to bed for approx 12 hours...my left ankle was still pretty sore until recently today.
I did take today off from the walking since I am ahead of schedule and to let my feet recuperate fully. I did muster up the fortitude to go to the gym today although I really didn't want to...I did the medicine ball pitchback for my cardio instead of the treadmill. I did feel better upon completing my workout.
So I have a few observations that I have come up with during the past week:
A lot of people seriously doubted my 100 miles in one month goal....I am making them believers!
The first 3 - 4 days were the hardest
The first 1/2 mile each day is the toughest
Having a definitive half-way point is definitely a god thing for me....it helps me to push through!
During my walks, I feel a connection to a point of spirituality that allows me to communicate with Him.
Walking has definitely cut my appetite!
Thanks to "100 Miles Per Month", I am definitely accellerating my weightloss! On a near daily basis I am now expending more calories than I am taking in each day.
At this point, I feel as though I am being led in a different direction in life, that going from Fat Kid to Fit Kid through exercise, nutrition and spirituality may in fact be my true calling.....to help other people achieve a healthier lifestyle through inspiration from my experience. I don't know for sure what this all means or how it will play out.
On Sunday, January 3rd, 2010 I started towards a goal of walking 100 miles in the month of January! This is a distinct case of my alligator mouth overloading my tweety-bird butt!
I said it and I put it out there in public so now I am doing it! The first 3 days were really difficult! Today I did 4.1 miles and it really wasn't too bad. I initially intended to do 3.6 but added an extra .5 miles on the end!
I am tracking my progress online at www.onlinefitnesslog.com which is a really cool FREE resource!
After 4 days, I have walked 13.9 miles and will be doing 2 walks tomorrow! This is in addition to working out with Steve and the Medifast plan.
SO .....I feel that I am pretty lucky to feel good effects of the new exercise program already!
I moved my mother in with us a few days ago. This was less than one month after moving ourselves. The big move about a month ago seriously kicked my butt! But theis move, while not being a cake walk, wasn't as bad! I attribute this to the new exercise program! All the stability movements, Steve has me doing is really helping the knee already!
I am looking forward to Monday morning when I will be starting my training at a new time in the early morning hours!
